The Digital Agriculture Programme is a transformative initiative under Jigawa-ATA’s Digital Agriculture and Rural Finance pillar, designed to harness the power of technology and data to revolutionize how farming is practiced, managed, and supported across Jigawa State. This programme integrates ICT tools, data analytics, geospatial intelligence, and mobile-based platforms to enable precision farming, real-time decision-making, and transparent agricultural service delivery.

By connecting farmers, input suppliers, extension agents, and policymakers through digital platforms, Jigawa-ATA is driving a new era of data-driven agriculture that enhances productivity, transparency, and inclusiveness. The initiative ensures that technology becomes a tool for empowerment—helping farmers access timely information, improve efficiency, and link directly to markets and financial services.

Digital Agriculture

Core Components of the Programme

  • icon Jigawa Farmer Information System (JiFIS): A centralized digital database capturing farmer profiles, farmland geolocation, crop data, and production history to guide planning and policy.
  • icon Digital Advisory and Helpline Services: Mobile and voice-based platforms providing real-time agronomic advice, pest alerts, and weather updates in both English and Hausa languages.
  • icon Input Voucher System (JiVS): A transparent, digital platform for distributing subsidized farm inputs, ensuring accountability and traceability across the value chain.
  • icon Market Information and e-Commerce Platforms: Real-time digital systems that connect farmers to input suppliers, buyers, and processors, providing access to prices, demand trends, and market intelligence.
  • icon Smart Monitoring and Analytics: Use of remote sensing, drones, and IoT sensors to collect and analyze farm data for improved yield estimation, irrigation management, and early warning on climate risks.

Expected Outcomes

The Digital Agriculture Programme will transform Jigawa’s agricultural sector into a technology-enabled ecosystem, where farmers make informed decisions, markets operate transparently, and policies are guided by reliable data. It will enhance efficiency in input distribution, boost yields through precision farming, and improve access to finance and markets. Over time, Jigawa-ATA will establish a fully digital agricultural value chain, positioning Jigawa as a leader in smart, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural innovation in Nigeria.
