Jigawa Agricultural Incubation Programme
In a major step toward agricultural transformation, Jigawa State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with Agrighar Services Ltd of India through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Jigawa Agribusiness Incubation Programme.
The MoU follows the successful completion of a comprehensive feasibility study conducted by Agrighar Services Ltd, which provided a detailed roadmap for sustainable agribusiness growth in the state. Representing the Jigawa State Government, the agreement was signed on behalf of His Excellency, Mallam Umar A. Namadi, while Dr. Sowmini Sunkara, CEO of Agrighar Services Ltd, signed for the company.
Governor Namadi described the partnership as “a bold commitment to building a vibrant agribusiness ecosystem that will empower our people and drive inclusive economic growth.”
The Jigawa Agribusiness Incubation Programme will focus on capacity building, innovation, and value-chain development across the agricultural sector. The initiative is designed to:
Empower 10,000 Entrepreneurs: Train 10,000 individuals with at least 50% participation from women to promote inclusive growth.
Establish 500 New Agribusiness SMEs: Support the creation of small and medium-scale agribusinesses to stimulate rural economies.
Promote Value Addition: Develop at least 15 new value-added products from local produce each year.
Create Jobs and Infrastructure: Establish 3 agribusiness clusters and generate over 2,000 jobs annually.
Governor Namadi emphasized that the programme marks a shift from traditional farming to market-driven, value-added agribusiness, enabling farmers and entrepreneurs to harness modern technology and business models for profitability.
“This is more than an agreement; it is a vision for the future of Jigawa — where our youth and women can thrive in agribusiness and contribute to the state’s economic prosperity,” the Governor noted.
Implementation of the programme is expected to commence soon, with further updates to be shared as the initiative progresses.
